Hello, everyone! Have you missed me? (Oh, hush, no need to be smart with me.).   First off, and above all else [in my world],: Happy Football Season and Happy Autumn! This is my favorite season of the year ...Football season, that is. Well-known fact: 'Football' was actually my first word as a baby! 
Okay, back to the reason I'm typing. Are you ready to write a novel? Many of you probably already know, but November is 'National Novel Write Month', a.k.a NaNoWriMo. Stephanie, it's only September... Yeah, I know, but how can you expect to write a novel in thirty days if you don't do a little prep work? ( By NaNoWriMo definition, a novel is 50,000 words. Of course, you can write more ...if you can...).
By NaNoWriMo rules (Nanowrimo.org), you must start from scratch on November first on any actual prose to be found within your novel, however, you can get character sketches, outlines, and research all done well before you start your writing. You can think up all the details, know exactly where you want to go at every turn, as long as you do not actually do any writing that will be used.
I know that plenty of you have a novel hidden deep within you, so let it out this year! Why wait for 'someday'? I vote that you try it this November! Even if you don't get to 50,000 words, you'll have a good start for when you open up the file on December First and do it for yourself instead of for NaNoWriMo.

Well, that's all I've got tonight. (To be honest, I'm typing after the Patriots lost and I'm thrilled about that, but Bellichick is such a sore loser and I'm a tad angry that he was so childish that he put his hands on an official! Can you believe that? I mean, ugh...).

I didn't ask for permission [because I'm evil], but I want to share Brandiwyn's response to my fear of NaNoWriMo:
And no fear from you, L'il Missy! We have plenty of support and motivational prizes and whatnot. I always tell people - even if you go for NaNo and "only" make 5,000 words, that's still 5,000 more words than you would have had otherwise - and when's the last time you wrote 5,000 words??  And the Prep is chock full of great writing exercises that will hone your story development skills, whether you go on to actually write a novel or not. - Brandiwynš¶  |
I was hoping to find a few NaNoWriMo prep examples, but my internet is being spotty as of late and I saw works for NaNoWriMo, but not much of the prep in my initial search, so here are some newbies to enjoy and review before you being your crazy prep for the craziest --and maybe best, month of your life! (By the way, if any of you want to tell me why my laptop wants to keep dropping my WiFi signal, by all means, speak up! This is making me crazy!)

My last newsletter was so long ago that I'm pretty sure I've aged since then ....oh, wait... I have.  Okay, so it was just last month, but I've had a birthday since then, so I really have aged!

Comment:I read throught the comments about free verse being put down because it does not follow a certain style. The exact oppisite happened to me as I had a person review my poem and stated they did not like, because the style I chose. The gave me a lower rating and told me to make changes. I like this style of poetry and did not want to make changes. Then it would not fit into the format of the poem. I responed the review with that and they stated it was my choice and that they only liked free style.
For all poets out there is how one chooses to write is there choice. We should remember in review not to critique that for any reason.
I cannot say enough that personal preferences should not impact a rating. Yes, opinions are important and have their place in rating and reviews, however, not liking a genre or style, etc... Should never impact the rating. If someone doesn't like the genre or style, they either shouldn't read it or should try to focus on more technical aspects. If I use a specific format, I add an explanation or link thereof at the bottom of the poem. I've had reviewers thank me for that because, sometimes, yeah, our words would sound better that way, but for the form, it must be this way. A little note might prevent you from running into such a problem again, if you didn't note it.

What a great contest! I wish that I could say that I read the stories since I am sure they are wonderful (okay, now I feel like I missed a party. Must. Find. Time. To. Read.). I think that your contest is a perfect fit for this newsletter! Writing a short story can easily make a writer so attached to a character that they want to live with them for a whole novel (or more) or, it could just help them flesh out characters that they've been toying with. Definitely a great NaNoWriMo prep opportunity --as long as everyone remembers that they can not use what they write for the contest in their novel word count. Thank you!
