About This Newsletter

I'm JACE , your guest editor for this iussue of the Fantasy Newsletter. This is the first time I've had the honor of writing for this newsletter, and thought I'd add a different perspective. I've long admired those folks who write in the Fantasy and Science Fiction genres, and hope my humble words do them justice.

Letter from the editor

I returned to writing some years back for several reasons after a hiatus of almost 30 years. Oh, I wrote, but not creatively, or for myself. I wanted to create a better place than where I was at that point in my life. I needed a world to which I could escape the mounting challenges facing me, a place of respite where I might re-charge depleted energy.

I needed to stimulate my imagination.

While I didn't actually write fantasy stories, these were the very reasons to develop Fantasy and Science Fiction worlds. Both genres mesh all aspects of life--history, social and economic norms, science, a desire to learn, imagination, and a touch of magic to bind it all together. There's no limit to the worlds you can create for yourself, or for those many readers.

You're on a quest, something on which your characters find themselves. From the Latin quaestio, a quest involves both asking and seeking. Whatever you as a writer desires to learn or to find on your journey, this quest is as unique and individual as your fingerprints. Only you can create and fulfill your quest.

Perhaps you're reading this newsletter for the first time, wondering about the genres known as Fantasy or Science Fiction. Maybe you're a seasoned fantasy story-teller, but find your quests rather mundane. Take some time to consider the reasons why you write. Let your imagination drift away, soaring to places only you know. Make them real.

Kindle (or re-kindle) that fire which set you on this wonderful journey of writing. I hope to see you in those many worlds.
