Time for Resolutions!

It's that time of year again - a time for resolving to reach your goals! I'm in a bit of a writing slump myself, so I'm using reviewing to find inspiration! For the last few years, I've made a resolution to review 365 items on Writing.Com. One review per day didn't seem all that difficult, in theory. I still haven't been able to meet my goal! This year, I'm going to be a little more realistic, and I'm hosting an activity to invite others to join in!

Some tips for making resolutions:

*Star* Be realistic. It's easy to want to set really big goals and with the whole year ahead of you, you might think you have tons of time. My goal last year was to review 365 items. How many did I actually review? 45. Nowhere close to my goal, so I've revised my goal to a much more realistic number of 52.

*Star* Challenge yourself. At the same time, you want to make it a bit of a challenge. Try writing in a new genre or reviewing something you wouldn't normally review! Step outside your comfort zone & grow!

*Star* Keep your goals in mind. If you have a calendar, write your goals on it! Write encouraging notes and check up on yourself throughout the year! It's easy to forget about goals!

*Star* Reward yourself! Come up with rewards to keep yourself motivated!

There's a statistic that between 80-90% of resolutions fail, and that can make it seem discouraging to make resolutions, but I think it's also a challenge to be one of the 10-20% that succeed! Success comes down to knowing yourself and what motivates you and never, ever giving up! *Smile*

Always keep on writing!

Ask & Answer

My last newsletter, ("Contests & Activities Newsletter (October 31, 2012)), discussed the positive side to being competitive.

Sorry for your loss and thank you for the words of encouragement. I feel too many young people my age and younger just aren't being taught the joys of competition, both loss and winning. Yay for community and childhood games! ~ A*Monaing*Faith

I agree! Competition has a bad rep these days, but it can be a good thing!

It is good to participate in competition. One hidden value just may be that it helps build enthusiasm, and do it often enough, that enthusiasm becomes natural - and it shows in the work produced. ~ cle001

I totally agree!

I'm launching a new contest in collaboration with two friends on WDC and would love to have the contest highlighted in your magazine. The best 3 stories will win an upgrade. ~ hopelesslyoptm

Done! I've linked it above in my "Picks" and I'll link it again here:
