Writing in Summer
Are you going to let that sunny weather keep you from writing?
June 21st will mark the beginning of summer in the calendar. For most people in the USA, this means the kids are out of school or about to start summer vacations. There will be thousands of reasons to spend time doing other things besides writing. That is a good thing. Each new day brings you new impressions that will enrich your writing. If you let it.
You can go through summer and let it slip by, or you can use all of your impressions. No matter if keeping a diary/journal, carrying a notebook, or writing in a blog at random occasions. Keep some of those summer impressions fresh for yourself by taking notes. If there is a day that is especially active and filled with adventures, take some time to write it down.
The more activities you have, preferably involving other people or animals, the more active your writing will be. Capture some of that life in your writing as soon as you can. Scenes, days at the beach, days visiting family, or any event create so much backdrop for lively writing. Challenge yourself to write down as much as possible by using active verbs and powerful nouns. Fill your texts with adverbs and adjectives. Dare to make your writing as colorful as a field of wild flowers.
Don't worry about style, critics, possible readers. Summer is fun. Write fun!

ANN Counselor, Lesbian & Happy wrote: How correct you are in this newsletters: write what you want to read....of course, you then have to write it well and 'hook' your reader. Thank you for including "Murderers" about forensic scientists in poet form; It's nice to write something others willingly recommend. ANN
You're welcome for the feature. And, yes, our writing has to hook the reader at least if we're writing in hopes to sell our writing.

But I know, since my story is about faeries, some readers will think of Melissa Marr and Holly Black and think my novel is anything but original. I've read some of Holly Black's books and found them very original, but then readers could also say she stole from the Brothers Grimm. We all get our inspirations somewhere.
