Snowed In!

I don't know about the rest of you, but I've been snowed in for what feels like weeks!

One good thing about being stuck at home means I get to work on my computer as much as I want. It can almost feel overwhelming to all of a sudden have large amounts of time to spend online, especially with sites like WDC, which offer lots and lots of activities!

Here are some ideas to keep you busy on a snowy day:

*Starb* Mad Libs - I think these are often overlooked. I remember buying the books when I was younger and finding them hilarious. I could spend hours of time filling them in! If you're finding it difficult to come across a good one, why not try creating one? Don't forget to test it out and have your friends try it, too!

*Starv* Quizzes - Test your knowledge with trivia quizzes! One other type of quiz that is really popular (and has been for decades) is the Personality Type Quiz. I recently came across a "What Your Literary Crush Says About You" quiz online, and I wasn't particularly impressed with the results. I'm tempted to write one myself! I don't see too many of those quizzes on WDC. Why not try to make one?

*Starg* Product Reviews - Many of us have a goal of how many books we'd like to read in 2014. Reading is great for about a thousand reasons, and one of those is thinking critically about what you've read. (One of the best advice many successful writers give is: Read as much as you can!) One great way to think about what you've read is to complete a Product Review about it. FYI, Product Reviews aren't just for books! You can review films, video games and even music!

*Stary* Review - Sometimes I feel like a cheerleader for Reviewing. I'm constantly and consistently working to encourage members to review. It's just one of the most rewarding things you can do on our site, and it's what keeps the site going! You can really pile up the gift points by reviewing through the many rewards, but it can also strengthen your writing by looking critically at others' writing. Admittedly, I used to review a lot more than I do currently, but I try to get a review or two in when I have some free time. It's always worth it. *Smile*

There are lots more options on WDC. Take a look around the site. A great place to start is the navigational tool on the left of the screen. Select "Browse by Type" and find something fun to do! There are many, many websites out there to waste time playing games, being social, etc., but none are quite as productive as Writing.Com, particularly to those who wish to hone their writing skills. When I spend a few hours on our site, I feel like I've actually accomplished something, you know?

I'm really hoping the snow will be gone soon, but just in case it isn't, I'm proposing a challenge. Create something. Any kind of activity, like a contest, a quiz, a product review, a review of another member's item, anything. Submit it by replying to this newsletter, using the form below, or sending an email to me: spidey

Everything submitted will get a review from me and some gps! One submission per member, please. Item must be created between February 19th, 2014 and March 15th, 2014.

Keep on writing!
