Not A NaNo'er
As in a lot of other newsletters this month, I'm going to mention NaNoWriMo. While many authors are busy at their keyboards, furiously pounding out a novel, some members just don't have the time to devote to a large undertaking. Now I'll let you in on a secret...not many NaNo participants are entering contests, either.
So this is the perfect time to explore a new genre, or check out a long-standing contest and see if you can come up with something to enter. Your contest or activity host will still be around to help guide you if you have questions, but the competition mix might be a little different because of NaNoWriMo. This could be the perfect time to jump in and win a great prize and meet some new members in the mix.
This is also a good time to stop in to your favorite activity and add some support to newer members. Some people might not be as active as they are normally because they are focusing on their novel project. So, jump right in and lend a hand where you can, and certainly be of any assistance you can to new members.
Try something different and see what happens, and as always, Write On!

Last month's question: What gothic / horror / scary element makes you most squeamish?
Magicmama  answered: It's not always an individual element I have trouble with--it's more the pacing of the tale I find frightening. Keeping the suspense up without wearing the reader out is not easy. You have to keep questions going on in their minds, mislead them, and give them enough "down" time between the really scary stuff so that you can still use the element of surprise.
BIG BAD WOLF is hopping  replied: Demons, possession, cannibals. Those are scarier than most anything else.
