Welcome to the Mystery Newsletter. A good mystery is like that strange friend you've always had, and wouldn't give up for anything. Mysteries make you think, trying to solve the crime before the detective can. You follow ever clue, examine all of the crime scenes and remember what each suspect said when questioned by the detective. A good mystery can keep you interested until the end. A great mystery will keeps you guessing until the last page...when it makes you slap your forehead in surprise!

Happy New Year!!!
Those three little words can mean a lot to us writers. If you are like most people, you are already planning your New Year's Resolutions. And, if you are like most of us, your resolutions will be broken before they ever have a chance.
Resolutions have been around as long as there have been people who wanted to better themselves. Every year, thousands of people make impossible-to-keep resolutions. And every year, thousands of people break their resolutions.
But there are ways to resolve to do better next year. The key is the kind of resolution you choose. And how you go about handling them. Here are three tips for success:
Don't pick an impossible resolution. Instead of saying, "This year, I'm going to write that novel and get it published and become rich", try, "This year, I’m going to write 500 words a day, every day." See how much easier that is to do...and if you can do it even two thirds of the time, you'll have 121,000 words done by December 31, 2006. Enough for a novel!
If you don't succeed the first try, don't just give up, keep trying. Too often people pick such unreasonable resolutions that when they can't keep up, or can't make it work, they just stop trying. Instead of giving up at the first sign of failure, get right back on the horse the next day. Don't let a bump in the road stop you. By not giving up at the first failure, you will be able to succeed!
Turn off your inner critic while writing. Ok, this one is the hardest one, the one that all of us have problems with. When you are writing your 500 words a day, tell your inner critic to take a hike. Don't let her/him dictate what you are going to write, or edit. You are the boss, not your inner critic!
Keeping your New Year's Resolutions isn't difficult. Tt does take some work, but it is well worth the effort!
