Letter from the editor

Hubby and I are getting ready to spend a gift. His sister gave us the trip of a lifetime! This Saturday we leave for two weeks in Hawaii on Oahu and Maui. It's been almost eight years since our last vacational road trip and a long time since we've gotten away! I have a new laptop, the camera, a bathing suit, an assortment of clothes and a pile of printed boarding passes, trip vouchers and receipts for upcoming tours. I know I will spend time writing --there will be so much to see, reflect on, take picture of and write about.

Pearl Harbor, the USS Missouri and the Arizona Memorial - No doubt writing will pour forth every bit as much as i expect the tears to pour. Waves, beaches, incredible sunsets, the view from Haleakala. Been so long since I really wrote anything aside from newsletters!. Too long.My brain must be switching into 'write-mode.' Even the lists of items to pack has sparked poetic ideas. We mailed a box of our clothes out to our first hotel so we wouldn't have to deal with our luggage on a long layover on the trip out. It awaits us on Oahu... our DNA beat us there!

I can't wait to perch on some rock in the sun, laptop balanced on my knees and watch the breakers roll in. Whales. Snorkeling. I can't wait to experience the experience. I can't wait to write it all down! This history - we've watched umteen documentaries on every aspect of our trip. To write and reflect will be so welcome! We were looking up at the stars the other night and Hubby remarked on how, atop Haleakala, awaiting the sunrise, how we shall see more stars than we ever imagined. The light from those stars left them before anyone even knew these islands existed, or perhaps, even before that first volcano blew its top and shoved itself boiling and spewing from the Pacific.Madam Pele will fuel much poetry, I am sure!

It will be interesting to breathe in the Hawaiian culture. To learn more of the history and aura of the islands. To try poi. To weave tapa.To do. To dream. To write!
