May is for sign ups.


What should you sign up for?


Signing up for activities gives you an incentive to complete them.


In my town, we have a magazine called "Seasons." In this magazine, published by the city every season, are the listings for all the fun things to do and learn for the next season. May is the month to sign up for all of summer! This means, by May 23rd, I have to know what I want my family to do all the way through the first week of September.

Why May 23rd?

This is the day when registration opens to residents. Residents have one week to purchase all the classes, workshops, excursions they want. One week later, registration opens up to non-residents. At this time, the ship has sailed. Everything will be booked and last minute enrollment wishes will most likely end up on some wait list with little chance of a call back for it.

In writing, there are also things to sign up for. For instance the two first activities I've highlighted in my editor's picks. As a writer, you benefit from a schedule for something that is so difficult to schedule. If you have another member willing to hold you responsible and breathe down your neck with reminders to write and stay on schedule, you should jump on the opportunity!
