Letter from the editor

*Delight*I have run and entered contests and tuning into some discussions around the topic, I thought I would share a few ideas, so... here are some bits and bites! *Wink*

*Confused* Why Enter A contest or activity?

*Fairy* The topic turns on your muse!
*Laugh*It is fun OR it is a challenge to dare yourself!
*Heart*To support contest author! They work hard to create a bit of fun with HOPE someone will play! *Wink*
*Star*To get noticed and even recieve constructive feedback.
*Exclaimg* Win or Lose, it can help you build that "receiving POV muscle" with grace, detaching from outcome and seeing what you can learn.
*Penb**Greetl*To Practice your art, and to practice getting yourself out there.
*Trophyg* To potentially win a prize and kudos from peers and judges!

*Whistle* What to Remember When You Enter!

*Magnify* Read the Rules with a fine tooth comb...er well...maybe a magnifying glass! Like Santa's list, check it at least twice. *Santahat* Creators try to be as detailed as they can and it can be easy to miss with quick reads or forget! *Laugh* Just before you post your item is a great time to re check!

*Burstr*Don't take a chance on shaking your head and crying "I coulda been a contender" by forgetting a word count, or line count *Facepalm* (I have done that recently with a GOT entry!)

Or by editing a minute after deadline! *Shock2* OUCH!
Or even a WRONG rating! I have seen lovely pieces disqualified for this one in a site contest. So just be aware.

*Computer* Learn how to use bitem to post your entries. Most contests give you links to use to do it. And if you are not techy, just ask.

*Thumbsup* Whether you like them or not, rules are rules in an effort for all to be fair. *Smile*

*Fairy2* Tips for Contest Creators:

*Notep* Make your DEADLINE dates OBVIOUS, maybe even mention it two times. Make it easy to find as some of us like to quick scan to double check. *Smile*

*Penp* Be clear on your Edit rule: can folks edit up to deadline?

*Stop* When contest is on hiatus, or closed for a time, It is really a contribution to searchers to add the word Closed in your title, until you open it again. Nothing like finding a fab title and theme only to be disappointed when we arrive and it is not running. *Sad*

*Dropp* Add Your contest to our contest page.."Writing Contests @ Writing.Com! I know I tend to miss some goodies as it is the first place I check for them. The page holds 50 and usually ones at the bottom are inactive sometimes, so there is room for your new round! Did you know you can also delete it when the round is over, or closed and add it back later? Or not! *Smile*
(Same with activities, advertising is the way to go!)
It seems that some folks are not savvy with newsfeed or may not have you on their fans to get messages. *Wink* "The Shameless "Plug" Page is popular too.

*Fairy*If you are creating a contest, have fun scanning what others are doing to get ideas, learn ML for decoration to make your page pop! And you can find cool Image shops if you want to have a specialized banner. Go to the Shop Tab on the side bar. *Wink*

*Quill* What Next?

*Bigsmile* Contests can be fun both to create and enter! So what are you waiting for? *Wink*
