About This Newsletter

Noticing Newbies Newsletter is geared to help members get acquainted with Writing.com -- there is so much do and all the features can be overwhelming! Our goal is to help you make your time here more fun and manageable.

Each week we select and showcase new items (poetry, short story, polls, etc.). Exposure for an item helps to bring you more rates and reviews; and by bringing more member interaction, that will give you the opportunity to build friendships. It is a two way street, so remember to reciprocate reviews.

"There's someone that you haven't already met, go introduce yourself to him or her. Walls and labels can't keep you from the people who are so similar to you in spirit. There's a friendly face behind every door if you pick the right moment to knock. Once you start your wave of creative outreach, it turns into a contagious force. People are waking up and smiling at each other, sharing their dreams without hesitation. This community is worth something."

Hello Members!

Spring is slowly rolling in, not fast enough for me, so I grew my own daisies for you all to see. *wink*

So, how did you all do with the timer? I definitely have been more productive, but still have to work on more days, I'm adveraging 2-3 days a week. After the timer rings (30 minutes), I end up writing for a while longer. The problem with me is just sitting down to write, not necessarily coming up with what to write. We all have something to work on, usually the problem is setting priorities and sticking to them.

Those of you having a difficult time thinking of what to write...get outside! Those dormant ideas will spring into action and write themselves on paper. Going for a walk is great mediation to quiet the mind. You would be surprised the words you think of to create an awesome sentence for that poetry piece or an ending for your story.

I would like to hear your idea on what gets your muse going. Send me your idea to share with other writers.

Until next time...

Ask & Answer

Thanks for the newsletter, I too have a hard time just letting my pen go. I find I always go back and erase or squiggle out. Even when I am on the computer. My husband often tells me to stop stopping and keep writing.
It's about habit, needing to create a good habit to replace the bad habit. Thanks for the article.

The term 'Scheduled Writing' scares me - it reminds me of essays and projects at uni; I hate sitting down and thinking 'I have to write an essay now'.
But there you see my main problem - I associate writing with work, and as such usually only write when the mood takes me.
I need to get over my mental block and teach myself to write whenever I have time, despite my mood.
Writing is a joy, I'm not doing it because I have to, but because I want to.

I'm going to have a go at timing myself, if it works then I will be able to write much more often than I do now, which will hopefully improve my writing no end!

Thank you for the suggestion.

A timer is a good idea!
Thanks for this newsletter.

the timers a good idea, but for me the best ideas come at random, like when I'm trying to sleep, durring class, or when I'm out to dinner. :D
