Roman Payne said: "People wonder why so many writers come to live in Paris. I’ve been living ten years in Paris and the answer seems simple to me: because it’s the best place to pick ideas. Just like Italy, Spain… or Iran are the best places to pick saffron. If you want to pick opium poppies you go to Burma or South-East Asia. And if you want to pick novel ideas, you go to Paris." I agree with him on 99% of the time. It is true that Paris is the city that inspired some of the greatest novelists of all time but it's not true that the only thing that France has is its capital city. My trip to Paris back in 2015 was wonderful as I managed to explore major sites such as Musée du Louvre, Musée d'Orsay, Eiffel Tower, Cathedrale Notre Dame, Palace of Versailles, Arc de Triomphe, La Basilique du Sacré-Cœur, Père Lachaise Cemetery. But my trip to Rochefort last month will remain as one of the best memories of France. The main reason for it is visiting places that are less known to tourists. Can't say I didn't follow Dalai Lama's traveling advice.
On our first day, we went to Saint Emilion , a charming medieval village in the Bordeaux area. We arrived right in time the village celebrated its 20th anniversary of being on the World Heritage List by the UNESCO. They had wine tasting all over the village as well as medieval games and shows guests could participate in.
On our second day, we visited Château de Crazannes which is built in the 14th century and now classified as Historical Monument. What we didn't know at the time we arrived is that this wonderful piece of architecture was the property of the real Marquis de Carabas who inspired Charles Perrault to write his famous tale "Puss in Boots".
On our third day, we visited Château de la Roche Courbon which is a private house, inhabited and lively. The castle is open during the whole year and organizes various events such as castle game, medieval festival, children's tales, manual engineering workshop. If you are walking through the garden you will be followed by classical music and you will feel as if you are attending the ball.
The fourth day we woke up and decided to just drive around and in one moment, near Port d'Envaux, we wandered through the forest path. And there it was— Les Lapidiales — a hidden gem. Les Lapidiales is a place where the art and inspiration have no boundaries. Surrounded by the trees, there are hundreds of bas relief pieces, many of them gothic or otherwise weird, as well as some three-dimensional free-standing sculptures. The idea of this unique site in France goes to Alain Tenenbaum, sculptor wishing to "create a space of art in perpetual evolution where sculptors of all countries, over the decades, will work on the common work that will testify before future generations of their state of men in their time". They would be given a certain period of time to finish their sculptures and the visitors are even allowed to watch them carving and modeling using nothing but old-fashioned hand tools. The finish products are different from one another, meaningful, inspiring, and extremely moving for the eye of a viewer. I was stunned by the details each of these sculpture carries on itself, telling a unique story.
From my experience, I believe there are places in this world purposely hidden not because they don't want to be found. I believe they exist for the wanderers and everyone else who isn't afraid to take a less known path. "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost comes to my mind; I shall be telling this with a sigh, Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. It really did make a huge difference as now I filled my soul with new writing ideas that otherwise would probably never be present. I know many people in the world don't have opportunities to travel as I do but, most of the time, traveling doesn't mean spending the money on the flight ticket, bed and breakfast. There are probably secret places in the place you live in too. And all you have to do to find them is to purposely get lost.

Excerpt: Traveling across the states feels like traveling across time. Time would stand still at some points especially when we reach the Northern Lights. Daylight for 6 hours and night feels like ages. Sitting in the car on a lunar eclipse, on the tailgate of a pickup truck watching the men rope steers, or even sitting in a field with the truck’s headlights pointing at us to give some light to our midnight picnic.
