Sorry - We're CLOSED

One of the helpful things I've seen is "CLOSED" in the title of contests or activities that have finished running. I was browsing the "Writing Contests @ Writing.Com listing and noticed that since the list moves pretty slowly, a lot of contests are already over but still on the list. One of them said "Closed" after the title and I thought this was a clever idea. So I poked in my port and did the same for some of my things. You certainly could do the same thing for any activity you're running. You could even put a start date in the title!

Besides the "Writing Contests @ Writing.Com or "Activities @ Writing.Com listings, you could add your contest/activity item tag to your signature. Have you created a signature? It's in the left column, My Account > Account settings. If you're a premium account member, you can set a signature for specific items also. In addition, if you're an upgraded account or higher, you can create Macros for specific jobs. I have one for responding to my "Leger's Shop orders and when I send out mail for "Secret Santa - Closed. They can be super handy for repetitive forum entries. You can learn more here in "Writing.Com 101 --- "Macros There are a lot of tools available for every membership level.

I can't stress enough to hosts of contests and activities to promote their item. Sure, it takes some time to jump over to these lists and enter your information but they're FREE. We like FREE, right? While sponsoring an ad might cost a few gift points, if you can do so, grab an ad or two. But be smart about how you bid in the bidclick system. Some genre and types have very low bids in them, a great deal! (Don't forget to remove your bids when your activity ends!)

Last but not least in my list of helpful stuff this month, our WritingML Help! It's in your left navigation panel under Writing.Com Tools. It's a great feature, one of a ton of features that The StoryMaster created to help us, and have fun in our community. Look over the list...you might find something of interest.

Ask & Answer

This month's question: What useful feature have you found? How did you use it? Send in your answer below! *Down* Editors love feedback!

Last issue's question: What is your focus until the end of the year?

BIG BAD WOLF is hopping responded: Depends on what I'm trying to write.

Anna Marie Carlson asked: Yes, I have a question that I am curious about. I had a black suitcase as a registered author. Now, it's a block that has question marks inside of it. What does this mean?

Leger answers: You were probably gifted a costumicon subscription. Certain times of the year, you can subscribe to costumicons if your membership level doesn't normally have them. You can read about them here in "Writing.Com 101 -- "Costumicons. The subscription does run out and your portfolio suitcase will go blank again. Unless you're a premium member, that level has pictures all year round.
