A world without colour would be...well...drab, dull. I love colour and for a person like me, Writing.com has lots of colours with which to decorate your writing.

Black
Blue Light Blue Brown
Green Light Green Grey
Indigo Khaki Light Khaki
Orange Pink Plum
Red Rose Teal
Light Teal Violet Yellow

Uses in your Items:

Use colour with other formatting (underline, emoticons, and bold) to identify Titles, Sub-Titles, and Headings.

Colour can be used to highlight important information, or key points in an article or essay.

Often people use colour to show the prompted words from a contest.

Colour can be used to suit the mood or subject of your item (especially poetry). For example:
         waves whispered 'gainst the shore

Colour can be used to add decorative elements to the item, along with the Emoticons. combine colour with those not-so-often used symbols on your keyboard, and you have some pretty, or cool, effects.

<> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <>

Some people even use colour to present their whole item, and, well, the choice may not be the best idea.

Did you have trouble reading that last paragraph. I am sure most did. There are certain colours which are better suited for accenting a piece, rather than used for the item's body. Pale colours such as grey and yellow, even light pink and green, can be extremely difficult to read. Some readers find the colour too difficult, or too distracting, and will bypass your item in favour of one in all black. Personally, I find items all in blue hurt my eyes. It's not that they're hard to read, but the colour seems harsher on my eyes than black. Consider the readers of your item when choosing your colours.

Sometimes we really like the way the colour goes with the item. I completed one whole poem in various shades of blue, and really liked the effect. However, I knew that some people would find that horrible, or just too distracting, so I also included a plain version underneath, enabling people to choose their preference.

Other Uses:

Use colour to enhance and clarify your reviews. For example, when correcting spelling: "They're Their parents are going to the movies."

Use to add festive fun, and accent your Emails, Message Posts, C-Note messages, and Newsletter Feedback.

Those members who have access to post to Writing.com's IM system can even choose a colour for their additions from the drop-down menu below the text box.

The How-To:

Each colour uses WritingML code. If you wanted to put a word in pink, it would look like this in your edit screen:
         Petals {c:pink}blushed{/c} the trees.

Notice the beginning tag {turns the colour on) and the closing tag (turns the colour off). The results of this example would look like this in your item:
         Petals blushed the trees.

To find the code for each colour, at any time, look in your "Site Tools" drop-down menu for "WritingML Help". *Smile*

Thanks for reading, and have fun colourising your world.
