The Christmas story continues. Please read, rate, and review.
It’s been a few hours now and not a single thing has happened, but that’s how we’re suppose to be, at least until everyone goes to bed. Every time I wanted to move and greet the new angel one of the Smith’s would walk through the living room. Glancing at the clock on the mantle of the fireplace I noticed it was almost time for the family to go to bed. Why were they taking longer than usual?
Good, Mrs. Smith is turning my lights on now. Always the sign that it’s bed time.
“Goodnight boys.” Mr. and Mrs. Smith said together as they both reached the top of the stairs and went into the master bedroom.
The voices of the boys sounded muffled through the doors, but it was obvious they were just responding to their parents farewell.
Okay! So the coast is clear, now it’s time to let everyone else know. I’m always the one that’s on the look out. All the other ornaments are too small to see, well all except the angel, but her job is to rule over the ornaments. To signal that all is clear I always shake my branches and flash my lights on and off twice. The moment I did that, every ornament came alive. All except the angel, which seemed unusual. Why wasn’t she moving?
I wasn’t the only one to notice, the Yo-yo ornament noticed it too, probably cause he was the closet piece to her. He slowly jumped up the last few branches to where he met the bottom of her dress. He seemed a little nervous, but took a deep breath and said, “Hello! Welcome to Smith Christmas Tree!”
With that the angel moved! I was excited now. She bent over a little so she could get a good view of Yo-yo, “Hello to you. I am your new angel, you can call me Angel B.” She said in a very soothing voice.
“Angel B? What does the B stand for?” Yo-yo asked.
“Why it stands for Bugle of course, because that's what I'm holding. What is your name?”
“Yo-yo, because I’m a yo-yo.” He was the only one that laughed at his own comment. Angel B just stared at him with a plastered smile.
“Well, Yo-yo, will you do me a favor? Can you organize a ornament meeting at the bottom of the tree? I want to introduce myself to everyone.” She said it so kindly it almost seemed fake. I am definitely starting to get a bad feeling about her, but I don’t know why. Who knows I could be wrong, I mean I wasn’t around to see how The Angel handled her first Christmas with the Smith’s.
It took about twenty minutes for all the ornaments to gather at the bottom of me. All the balls rolled over to the same section, and all the other ornaments divided up how they liked. That’s how it always is whenever there is a meeting being held, which is usually twice during the holidays when we are out of our boxes.
“Hello everyone!” Angel B greeted softly, yet powerful enough to get everyone to become silent. She stood on top of one of the few Christmas gifts that had already been placed around me. “I am Angel B, your new ‘Head Ornament’. From what I’ve discovered from Yo-yo, is that your last angel was around for three years. So I understand that it will take some time for all of you to get used to me and how I run things. I’ll be honest with you, there will be some things I decide that you will not like, but there will be things that you will like. I would like to make this Christmas as enjoyable for you as it’s always been. So please if there is anything that you have an opinion about, please feel free to come tell me. Now are there any questions? Comments? Concerns?” Several ornaments raised their hooks and hoops, “Yes, you.” Angel B pointed her bugle at the ornament that looked like a breast cancer ribbon.
“Hi, my name is Cure,” she said introducing herself. “I would just like to start by welcoming you to our family.”
         “Thank you, Cure.”
“And also I’d like to let you know that we all had planned on throwing a ‘Welcome Back’ party for The Angel, but seeing as she isn’t back, we’d like to invite you to the ‘Welcoming’ party, which is now going to be held in your honor.”
Everyone else nodded in agreement, “Well, I’m not really into parties, but I suppose I can make an exception for tonight. Seeing as it is my first night, and I’d like a chance to meet as many of you as possible.”
Maybe Angel B won’t be as bad as I thought. She answered several more questions before bringing the meeting to a close.
“I would like to announce one more thing before we leave to set up the party. This year I have elected Yo-yo as my personal assistant. So that means that if I am busy, you are to go to him and if he can’t help you, then he’ll schedule a time for you to meet me. With that, I will see all of you at midnight for the party!” Angel B waved goodbye and jumped up the branches to the top before anyone could say anything more.
Yo-yo looked just as surprised as everyone else with the announcement, but happy all the same. He suddenly stood up straighter and looked more as serious as a yo-yo could look.
I have to say that we’ve never had to deal with assistants before. The Angel used to always work on her own. So who knows this idea will either end up succeeding really well, or failing miserably. Guess we’ll have to wait to find out. With that said, it’s time to over look the preparations for the party in a few hours.
