He lit the way and then bid me go alone.
The candle went out I can’t see.
Please I’m stumbling where is heaven now?
Guide me with your voice please speak to me.
I am lost in the darkness.

My hands fly out to break my fall,
I can feel a hand now steadying my arm,
Keeping hold of my hand down this dark hall,
And lighting the candle that went out.

What leaving so soon my stranger?
Friendship from afar leaves me alone.
Just promise my candle will keep me from danger.
For you must tend to your candle as it requires.

Could we not share a single flame?
I don’t want to navigate my way alone.
Yet alone we play the light giver’s game.
May I at least kiss my dream of you goodbye?
