A man struggles with, and overcomes his fear of relationships
The Sea

I stood upon a wind washed island.
Looking to the sea.
I walked the beach forever,
With no one missing me.

All around my feet,
Rounded pebbles lay.
I cast them in the ocean,
To throw my hopes away.

Waves climbed the sands,
Tempting me to swim.
I pulled my coat around my chest,
And entered on a whim.

The ocean gripped my clothes
Its cold, a wicked knife.
I looked back at the beach,
fearing for my life.

The tide pulled me under.
Water closed above me.
I feared the ocean current,
But it ignored my plea.

Air seared my lungs,
I struggled not to breathe.
But soon I couldn’t stop,
I began to take my leave.

The darkness closed around,
But soon I saw a light.
The sea grew warm and soft,
And I gave up without a fight.

The ocean helps me breathe,
I’ve learned to like it here.
I’m okay without my island,
The sea, she holds me dear.
