A poem on the topic of WWI. From the point of view of a dead soldier.
EARLY GRAVE

We never knew what hit us,
We fell onto the ground,
Covered by white snows,
Fell without a sound.

Now so still we lie,
Our memories are dead,
One a shot into the chest,
Another to the head.

Underground so cold,
Shiver we at night,
Only songs of life,
Lessen utmost fright.

Taken in so soon,
We see no sun no moon,
Only but the root,
Of the herbs in June.

Lullabies we hear,
Sung so far away,
Maybe it is but the grass,
As by winds it sways.

Here forever more,
We are bound to lie,
This being the curse,
You get when you die.

You who live above,
In peace let us rest,
As we were the ones,
To free you at last.

Fighting for our cause,
We who are so brave,
Fell into the jaws,
Of an early graveā€¦
