It's Over

“Don’t look at me like that Mildred,” Harry said, “we both knew our being together was only a chance thing. We knew that from the first time we met.”

Harry paced back and forth trying to put his thoughts in order, the pacing also gave him the excuse to not look into her sad eyes while he tried to explain. “I wasn’t even supposed to be in that store that day.”

It was true, Harry had only stopped his truck long enough to run in and get directions and use the washroom. Their eyes had met across the crowded room and zap; instant attraction. He didn’t know how or why, but Harry knew she felt it too by the way she looked at him.

At first Harry had tried to ignore it, he went ahead and found the washroom, but all the while he was in there the thoughts kept tumbling around in his brain. He had to go out and get a better look, maybe strike up a conversation. He had to get to know her better.

So he had done so, while talking he could tell by the look in her eyes and her body language that she wanted to go home with him. So, in spite of his better judgement he had taken her home.

In the beginning it had been good too; they really enjoyed being together. Harry loved having her waiting for him when he came home from work. She seemed to be happy too, always making a big production when he came home. After dinner he would sometimes sit and talk with her for hours.

Things change though, time and circumstances happen, “I just don’t feel the way I used to, I’m sorry.” Harry said, dumping the fishbowl into the toilet.
