A poem about the heartbreak of finding out my bf was cheating on me.
This place we called our own
Has now been stolen.
I am shattered by not the fact,
But the criminal involved.
I thought I wasn’t alone.
I thought you locked me in your heart,
Just as I had done to you.
Have I meant nothing all along?
Although my heart is disintegrated,
Rather than show my weakness,
I collect my evidence
And let the wind carry me away.
But I shall return
In half an hour, half an hour.

Trails of tears left behind,
Lock the door and all is blocked.
My strength drained from my soul,
I simply lie in silence,
Studying the ceiling.
My thoughts are choking on only you.
Oh, let the earth open up and swallow me whole!
It’s time to let go, but my grip cannot be loosened.
As I close my eyes, I lightly rise.
Kiss the heavens and descend,
Hoping I’ll find it all a dream.
Yet, I open my eyes to find it all the same,
Except the ceiling is a carousel
For half an hour, half an hour.

Half an hour before the train derails.
Half an hour in the wrong lane.
Half an hour, half an hour,
Not a question, not an answer.
Half an hour without you, half an hour.
Half an hour, you and her, half an hour.
Each of us, each of us, half an hour.
Confrontation in half an hour.
The sands of the time pass with the speed of a snail.
27 minutes, then 28, 29, 30.
The time has come to face the truth and destroy the source.
My hand barely eases towards the phone,
My fingers trembling across the numbers I once knew so well.
But once I hear your voice, it chills me like an arctic wind,
And it’s only been half an hour.
