a snapshot in my mind's eye

I was walking for the sake of myself.
Crying the blues to no one.
Smiling to myself all allong.
Humming as I strode.

I eagerly make the choices that I do.
Turning flames inside to ashen embers,
needing to be fanned.
Before the fade.

Where do the desolate go to wail?
The world is deaf, hungry, blind.
It's people are hungry, blind.
Feeding only their envy.

Where have they all gone?
Restless spirits.
Crying to themselves.
That desparate question.

We winter well. We who quest.
Walking alone yet among others.
Hungry as the bitter frost sets in.
Carrying with it still more solitude.
