FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN

A fire on the mountain, out of control
and spurred on by the wind's sigh,
as it races through the brush and trees,
smoke rising into a hot summer sky.

The birds take flight, escaping the heat
of the fire, as nature takes its course.
Deer run, wild-eyed and frightened;
Natural disaster bringing remorse.

Sparked by lightning, embers bright
ebb through the undergrowth, so slow;
Creatures cry out in pain as they try
to escape from the fire's glow.

Cascading water from the falls
will save the lives of some of them,
until God looks down and sends rain
to bring their world to life again.
