My short description of the after-effects of making up with my wife
Awake at night, looking up at harmless clouds
With her, before our sleep
Before awake again
Lying skin to skin
Moving gently
Caressing with our bodies
Then sudden stillness
Sleepy son shuffled by
Urinated with door open
Then collapsed on our bed
Tried to crawl under
His mom protested
With a smile
Son went off to sleep
Mom became wife,
Cat, rubbing and purring,
Puppy, wanting stroking,
Cheetah, rapid movements flowing like water,
Snake, undulating, poised, as if ready to strike,
Wolf, baring teeth and claws, nearly scratching,
Dolphin, arching, leaping gracefully out at sea,
Lover, breathing gratitude,
Wife, speaking softly,
Stilling words, gently.
After urinating with door open
To bed, belonging
Two sleep,
Together
Again.
