an intro made for a role-play. Characters: Jim and Matt (original characters)
.:.: Cup of Coffee :.:.

You tell me you don't love me over a cup of coffee
And I just have to look away
A million miles between us
Planets crashing to dust
I just let it fade away

Tap, tap. There went the noise. Tap, tap. It beat against the clear glass table. Tap, tap. There it went again. Tapping at the table with a no.2 pencil like he wanted to kill. It wasn't the lad's fault, anyway. The other was bugging him about some rather off-topic that he didn't want to discuss. The nagging continued on through, anyway, although the lad was about to explode and counter the other. Tap, tap. Not again. There we go, the boy had shut his hole and was currently peering through the small window of the dingy coffee shop towards the outside. He commented about the weather which was lost on the tapping lad. Nimble fingers touched the sleek pencil and put the lead to paper, making scratching noises as the pencil went slowly upwards and downwards, making words that were not really legible at all. Chicken scrawl, his mother used to call it. The annoying boy had the courage enough to lean across the dirty table and give him a poke.

"What?" Answered the tapping boy. The other was already getting on his nerves, nearly driving him over the edge.

"I wanted.. to talk. About us." He had the courage enough to reply.

"Talk? About us? What is there to talk about us? You love me, right? I love you. Isn't that enough? Jim, I'm tired. I need sleep, I've been on edge. Can you get us a cup o' joe?"

"We need to talk, love." Nodding to the waitress, she came towards them, pouring a refill of black coffee into each of their mugs.

"I told you, I don't have the time or patience. I need to complete this essay before it is due three days from now, and I've about had it with the bloody Greeks, and-and whatever other shmit I have to write about." This was spoken in a ramble of words that nearly made no point, only to explain that he had no patience to be talking to a fool that didn't much give a care for his studies.

"You have three days to complete that, baby." Was the bold answer. Was he looking for a fight?

"Exactly, three days. You-you just don't care, do you? For your studies, and my studies, my well-being.." The rant had been used many times before to shut the other up. But today, there was a glint in the other's that hinted that this time, it wasn't going to work.

"We must talk, Matt." He repeated the atrocious words.

This time, Matt chose to ignore the other's words, leaning a bit back on his chair, and continuing on with his chicken scrawl. The topic was the Greeks. There were twelve Olympians on Mt. Olympus. The coffee was stale. Never mind that, concentrate on the paper that was due at hand.
Jim now had the courage enough to stretch his hand out across the table and grab Matt's wrist, placing his rough, calloused hand on top.

"What the bloody hell do you want, Jim?" Matt was beoming exhausted with this jaunt, this stupid talking back and forth and had decided to just get right to the point.

"Matt, there's something that's been in my mind, bothering me, ragging me down. Have you noticed the lack of interaction with our bodies there has been?" Now that he mentioned it, they hadn't been in bed together for quite some time.

"Matt, to tell you the truth," Here he gave a melodramatic pause, but the tapping lad knew what was coming, an eyebrow was raised, "I don't think I love you anymore."

A small giggle escaped from Matt's lips. God, this was hilarious. He had a paper to write! How could Jim do this to me?

"I'm not joking."

"So you're serious?" A fit of giggles.

"Yes, I am."

"No, you aren't." Another fit of giggles. He was set to explode. Someone call the ambulance.

"Matt, calm yourself. I am serious."

So, that was it? He wasn't in love anymore? Was this how not being in love felt? Well, he didn't feel much. A scrape of the chair announced the sudden departure of the other boy. He felt the warm hand that had caressed him so during the cold nights once again on his cheek, and he leaned close on it, but then, it was gone and only an empty feeling was left.
He reached up and felt the cheek that had been touched.

"Oh bloody hell" He looked at the coffee, silver tears sliding down the ivory cheeks, into the coffee. Oh dear me, you just had to say that over the cup of coffee. The morning coffee. Now, how am I supposed to concentrate on this paper? More tears slipped down, and he turned away from the paper and coffee, staring out the dirty window, spotting the retreating back of the boy who he had just been dumped by.
Oh how he loved him. A sob retreated from his throat, and the waitress asked if he was alright, he replied, a stammer: "J-j-just the nerves." And waved his hand to signal her to be off.

Oh what was he going to do now?

A/N: The song is Cup of Coffee by Garbage
This intro was made spontaneously after reading the book Two Boys, At Swim by Jamie O'Neill & while listening to Cup of Coffee. I've currently only role-played it with one or two people.
