This is called an 'I Am' poem designed to describe myself
I AM
September 3, 2006

I
I AM
I AM knee-deep in dust off dry trails
I AM the sound of cowboy boots on crunchy dirt
I AM the heave of hooves and noisy leather and jangling metal shanks in fresh
animal-scented air.
I AM excited, yes, but afraid and nervous
I AM self-assured and courageous. Call it curiosity. Call it daring. Call it bravado.
Call it here I AM and let’s see what I can do with the task at hand.
I AM the best I can be
I AM an adventure. An adventure in stirrups and strings
I AM ankles brushed by black corduroy
I AM inside pant legs like flexible hollow logs
I AM held together by the glue of cumulus
I AM colors that rise and set with the sun that drips off mountains and puddles in canyons.
I AM a study in painted light and pencilled shadows
I AM anticipation and hope and an undying faith
I AM serendipity and joy
I AM timidity and inhibition
I AM sunlight on chrome fenders
I AM spokes that click when they spin
I AM coyotes parting prairie grass that blow with the scented sage
I AM, most of all, trusting my faith to and growing in God
I AM the cold concrete
I AM envisioning stars on a chilly night
I AM feet planted in snow
I AM diamonds under streetlights
I AM stillness in a winter night
I AM the wind as it dances in your ears
I AM the lean on a fence
I AM the dogs barking in the dark from yard-to-yard in the distance
I AM stomping hooves in the morning hay, and the rustling of restless feet
I AM the crunch of grain and the smell of sweet feed in munching muzzles
I AM the corridors and elevators of pied notes
I AM never-ending worlds of tones and harmony
I AM well-deserved rests upon wooden instruments
I AM alive with tremulous strings
I AM
I
