Young girl in search of genuine love ...
SEARCHING
(posted previously on Writing.com several years ago)

When I was a young girl, I've always dreamed
of someone who would sweep me off my feet.

As the years went by, it always seemed
that this someone I would never meet.

Searching and searching, it never occurred to see
that He was waiting and waiting just for me.

Oh, I searched and found many loves to pacify
the true love that was really burning deep inside.

For the love I needed I had not known …
it was hidden under abuse and neglect that was shown.

So I searched for a love I was accustomed to,
only to find out in the end the damage it would do.

So there I was abused and hurt,
if anyone tried to love me I would hurt them first.

This went on and on until I was all alone
coming to realize I was a stranger in my home.

Unrecognizable, lonely, and so unlovely …
He came to show me what true love should be,

Overwhelmed by unconditional love piercing my heart,
releasing my esteem to higher heights.

All deceit, pain and sin crushed under forgiveness’ reign.
Virtues of love, joy and peace rushed to abide within.

Till my countenance exploded with such a magnificent glow,
and now His Word in me causes agape love to flow.

Always giving and patiently enduring
are priceless principles of true love’s meaning.

At last, I found what I was searching for …
a love that is so unmistakably pure.

The chains have been broken and now I’m set free
to experience the love of Him who has always loved me.
