For Lexi's Poetry Challenge.
The snow drifts down
At the foot of the willow tree
Where we both stand together
In the fading sunlight gleams
Dusky so early
A perfect time of day
For an unrehearsed confession
You unknowingly await.
The snow is crunching softly
Underneath my anxious feet
Nibbling on my lower lip
Anticipating inspiration
Impatiently you stare at me
My cheeks are blushing red
I dismiss, and say it’s nothing
The words are silenced once again.
Snowflakes were alighting in your
Eyelashes and hair
The sight must have struck me dumb,
I’ll leave the thing unsaid.
Unrehearsed, my words will fail me.
It’s too much like a stage
To step forth and say the lines
That you never meant to say
So I’ll let you go for now
Until my strength’s returned
Next time I won’t have stage fright
Because I’ll have rehearsed.
