Love discovered after my friend's fatal crash (Revised)
I didn't know I loved you
Until the drunk driver killed you
Just before the Winter Solstice a year ago.
I didn't know you meant so much to me
Until it was too late.
I didn't know how much you touched my life
Until I could touch you no more.
Now I hold your picture,
Reflecting on your passion for life,
The way you healed,
The way you smiled,
The way you hugged--
Oh I miss your hugs!
I could use one right now!
I hold your picture
When all I want to do
Is hold you.

Edited version:

I didn't know
I loved you so deeply
Until I got the news
A drunk driver killed you.
My heart ached
And the shock hit me in waves.
Disbelief was easier to feel then facing it.

I didn't know you meant so much to me
Until it was too late
And your last breath was taken
And I could never touch you again.

Now, I hold your picture...
The only picture I have.
I reflect on the life in your eyes
And wish you were still here.
I hold your picture
When all I want to do
Is hold you!
