The morning when a young man wakes up with a girl, minus his girlfriend
Kyle began to awake from his drink-induced slumber. Trying to open his eyes seemed such an effort as it generally does when you come round from such a deep sleep. Early morning sunlight protruding through the thin curtains bounced off his tiny pupils, triggering the alcohol-based headache.
“Jesus”, he whispered as his face scrunched and retorted against his now throbbing temples. This was more or less a regular feeling now, so instead of thinking about downing a pint of water and a couple of Neurofen, his first thought was that maybe a can of lager would balance him out. Either way, he had to get out of bed sometime soon.
He opened his eyes and tried to concentrate on the ceiling through blurred vision. He thought about how he had got home, but his brain was not yet online, it would all come back to him later.
‘I’ll get up in a second’, thought Kyle. Thinking and doing were two completely different things altogether; he could quite happily lie in bed all day sleeping. His theory was that when you slept after a few drinks, your brain is still drunk, so is unable to arrange all the day’s events- half the reason that you sleep. The only way to resolve this was to sleep further, much further into the day. Well, that was his excuse to his nagging mother. Come to think of it, it was highly strange that his Mum hadn’t woken him up, or conveniently started hoovering the house.
It was then that his brain began to wake up, and realise that the ceiling he was looking at was not his own light-blue plastered effect, but a green chip wood. Confusion hit and he struggled to understand how that could be possible.
His confusion ended as he heard a moan next to him, and a stray arm rested on his chest and a warm body snuggled up to his torso, a leg entwining itself with his. His hangover disappeared, his eyes fought through the glaze and his body went rigid with worry.
Not many would react this way. What better way to wake up than to find someone cuddling up to you; feeling a gentle sheltering arm around you and warm breath on your neck? This was one of a “coupled up” man’s advantages.
Unfortunately, not when you experience this- and the other half of this “couple” is hundreds of miles away on holiday with her family in Egypt. He closed his eyes and sighed to himself, it had happened again. Now he wished that his memory would stay blocked, at least until he could get home and showered, then have time to think. When would he learn?
