A poem about kid's activities in Australia, written with some slang
Growing up in Australia

Growing up in Australia,
Was oh so much fun.
Chuck a hose over the old Hills Hoist,
To beat the hot noon sun.

Or sitting under the yum yum tree,
And chewing on a sweet mango.
Letting the juice run down your arms
Until there was none to go.

Jumping on the trampoline
Was fun when it was cool.
When it got hot, filled it with water
And turned it into a pool.

Christmas time, we’d gather ‘round
And make fruitcake in the sink.
And fill it up with tiny coins
Which always made me think…

What happens if we choke on one?
Will Dad perform the Heimlich?
Haven’t got Buckley’s chance of that.
A slap on the back will find it.

Playing with the Totem tennis
Trying to hit the ball,
Joined to a post with a length of string
We’d play till ready to fall.

Prezzies under the Chrissy tree
Were colourful and inviting.
But the tree was on the pool table
We were beneath it, hiding.

Popp-a-lots were heaps of fun,
The ball flying to and fro.
Until the ball went over the fence,
Then it was time to go.

Growing up in Australia
Was wonderful in the sun.
And we’d always go back to the old Hills Hoist
And have a bit more fun.
