I watched you As you sat And wrote down your thoughts
The Empty Chair

I watched you
As you sat
And wrote down your thoughts
On white lined paper
In the small café.
I sat at the table
In the corner
And breathed in
Your sweet cologne
From across the room.
I gazed at your
Beautiful, dark profile
As you stared out the window
Out into the world beyond
And dreamt dreams
I could only imagine.

Then you stood.
Put on your jacket.
Quietly pushed in your chair.
And slipped out the door.
Sadly I watched you go.
Once again.
Then I stood
And walked over
To the small table
Where you had sat
Just moments before.
And I sat
In the chair across
From where you had sat
And I imagined
If I had been sitting there
Just moments ago.
And how we could have talked
Of why the leaves fall
Off the trees in autumn.
Or how the waves
Crash against rocky shores
And joyfully explode
In a cold firework of blue.

But then I opened
My eyes
And saw the empty chair
Across the table
And a single tear
Leaked from a blue eye.
