Alone. And dreaming I sit...

Alone
And dreaming
I sit.
And watch the cold wind
Dance with leafless branches
On a dead brown tree
Standing against
The sad sky
Pale and empty.

Alone like me
A brown sparrow flies
Lost, around that tree
We are the same
That small, feathery
Creature and I.
But he is lucky
For he has what I want most.
And jealousy fills my heart
And turns it green.
How I wish
For the freedom
Of flying through
The open sky
Where the only limit
Is the moon.

I am here.
Tethered to the arm
Of my controlling master
Telling me how
To live
When all I want to do
Is fly.
