A confession to reading addiction.
To read a book, a story, a tale
Once it’s read, it’s yours to tell
I always seek new books to read
With desires akin to  greed

Vision’s quest in words delight
Long the hours of the night
Caught inside a page’s tale
Woven words; written well

Sweet the moment, a hero’s kiss
Brave the fool who takes the risk
Sleep forsaken for written words
Inside a book my thoughts are stirred

Touched by sorrow, made you cry
Stirred to anger by a lie
Tragic are the tales of woe
Heroes slain as evil’s foe

Mystery’s web to unravel.
Wilderness is a trail untraveled.
Vast is space to be explored.
Villain’s antics to be deplored.

Politics are a risky chance.
Use a cause to make a stance.
Lawyers plead their case in court
Judges verdict are News reports

History’s page has many truths.
Thought provoking, cause of youth.
History tomes are filled with tact.
Facts obscured; vision lacked.

Adventure is a reader’s creed.
Swept up with a Hero’s deed.
We have chosen, thoughts are keyed.
We follow down a writer’s lead.

To read a book, a story, a tale
Once it’s read, it’s yours to tell
To laugh aloud at Jester’s joke.
Elbow propped in bath to soak.

Did you pause? Did you gasp?
As eyes raced the written path.
Did you smile? Did you sigh?
Unaware as time slipped by?

A book, a friend until the end.
Lain aside to read again.
Many books I have come to love.
Their writer’s mind a treasure trove.

I read then live, I live to read.
I search the shelves with addict’s need.
Down aisles I walk stacked high with books
I pull a spine and take a look.
Like vintners with a wine to taste.
My hand trembles in its haste.
