I wrote this after a friend of mine died.

I hear a voice on the other end.
I concentrate on what is being said.

"There was an accident, I'm sorry."

The words don't make sense to me.
I'm not sure just what they mean.

Tears fill my eyes, as chills creep down my spine.
The sound of my heartbeat drowns out the words.

"There was an accident, I'm sorry."

The phone falls from my hand.
I don't remember letting it go.

A moan escapes from my lips.
My body starts to shake uncontrollably.

"There was an accident, I'm sorry."

As words repeat over and over in my head,
My legs give out and I fall to the ground.

My breaths are coming faster and faster.
My chest feels like its going to explode.

Time stands still, as my sobs grow louder.
I finally understand whats happening.

"There was an accident, I'm sorry."

Closing my eyes, I take a deep breath.
Counting to ten before I exhale.

I raise my head and stare into space.
Images of him flash through my mind.

The only words I can think of now,
"Why him?" "Why him?"
