The safety offered by depression
In hidden spaces,
Small and dark;
Where monsters cannot reach.
I watch and wait,
Enclosed and curled;
Unseen.

Once in a while
I open up
And peer into the world,
But then retreating
Back again,
To safety.

So many people
Think they know
The person here inside;
But they can’t know -
They’ve never seen
The real me.

So one day soon,
When I’m feeling good,
I’ll brave the outside demons.
I’ll leave my shell,
Surprise them all
With me.
