A poem written when I was tired of the b.s. of years-long pseudo-friendship.
The End of Friendship

I thought I held your hand- tightly.
But I lost your fingertips in my haste while jaywalking.
I misunderstood our understanding and forgot to call,
while waiting for your response.
I tossed my rock and it refused to skip-
while you were watching…
(in that vaguely interested way of the t.v. talk show host.
Concerned about your ratings.)
You’ve been false all along, playing pretend friends-
I’ve been the paper doll girl whiling away your time,
until you were busy being busy.
You assess my value according to softness rather than luster.
I’m not a chicken feather girl. And you aren’t keen…
because you lost a me you thought you had folded with lint in your pocket.
