Short story about a girl's curse
“Damnation”
by Luna February 7, 2007

A female of average height steps stealthily into a room shrouded in darkness. Ebony curls fan as she turns quickly at a quiet sound. Standing in the corner is a tall creature with flesh pale as innocence and eyes dark as a demon’s heart. Again the sound echoes, a command for a brief taste of warm flesh. Unsure, she steps to the creature’s side, a question shinning in deep emerald eyes.

“Do not be afraid,” whispers the creature as she is turned to look through a small peephole. On the other side she sees the one she sought with another, their bodies glistening in the darkness as they move as one.

“Why do you show me this?” she asks sadly, tears stinging with betrayal.

The creature says nothing, instead breathing a kiss on tawny flesh. She starts, turning in the arms to hold that dark gaze. The two stand in silence, eyes locked upon the stories of the soul.

“You should not feel so hurt,” the creature breaks the gentle silence. “She has no right to one such as you.”

She reaches a hand up slowly, the pale cheek under her fingers cold as night. Her toes point as she leans up, capturing the forbidden crimson in a kiss of innocence.

“Do not kiss me,” the voice suddenly says gruffly, pulling away from the hurt emeralds. “I cannot do anything for you. I will only succeed in damning you.”

The creature turns away, trying to escape back to the shadows where the child’s innocence can no longer burn at its soul. Its escape is halted with a firm grip and a soft word.

“Wait…who are you?”

The creature struggles with the desire racing through its dead heart before saying, “I have no name. If I did, you would already have it in your possession. Call me what you will, daughter of Venus.”

“So many names would fit you. Tell me which is yours, so I may say it just once.”

“If you need call me something, call me Demon, for that is what I am. You seek salvation from me, but I am damnation.”

The child places her hands on either side of the ethereal visage and sighs, “Salvation or damnation, you have lit something within me.”

Behind them, through the wall she’d spied behind, a loud scream reaches their ears. She jumps, recognizing the scream as one of fear, not the pleasure she’d witnessed moments earlier. She turns quickly, her hair brushing across the creature, and presses her eye to the peephole once more. The sight that greets her fills her bones with ice. Her lover lies, eyes open wide, with the one she’d moved with drinking away her existence through the throat.

“That is what will happen to you,” the voice says right in her ear, causing her heart to stop momentarily. “Fear and lust will make you all the sweeter.”

A scream chokes in her throat as she is roughly turned. The beautiful face comes close and surprises her as her lips are roughly claimed. She responds, surprised and excited.

The creature of night violently pulls away, eyes suddenly glowing scarlet. It holds her arms to her side, drinking in the sight of her flushed cheeks. She gasps shallowly, her heart pounding in her ears. She feels no fear any longer, only desire.

The demon attacks suddenly, sharp fangs of ivory sinking smoothly into a luscious neck. The crimson fluid of life fills its taste buds, slipping down its throat. It almost drains her, but pulls away.

“I told you I would only bring you damnation,” it murmurs, tracing her cheek lovingly. “Can you forgive me this curse I place upon you?”

With that plea, it makes a shallow cut upon its wrist with a nail, blood welling to the surface. The wound is put to her rose lips and, on a command, she begins to drink.

Her lips are stained when it pulls away from her touch. She can feel in her veins she is no longer human and asks, “What have you done? What have I become?”

“I have damned you to eternity,” it says gently, stealing a soft kiss and taking its new mate by the hand. Together they fade into the mists of time.
