A poem about a man I once knew.
PERFECT GENTLEMAN

You were so gentle and kind,
Perfect gentlemen are hard to find.
They are few and far between,
These days not often seen.

You spoke about the old days,
And our changing ways.
You told stories of your life,
And how you met your wife.

You were a gentleman through and through,
That is certainly true.
You suffered great pain,
But you never did complain.

It was a privilege to have met you,
And your loving family too.
They were always there,
To give you comfort and care.

You drifted off to sleep at last,
But still remembered the past.
To your memories you held on,
Right until you were gone.

Your colourful life we celebrate,
But to meet again we have to wait.
You’re at peace now I know,
It was the time for you to go.

I hope we made your last days,
Remembering your past days,
Comfortable, safe and content,
Until the day you went.

I know you are there but I can’t see,
That lovely smile you gave to me.
We'll meet again one day,
Until then for your peace I pray.
