CAPTURED IN THE WIND

I am captured in the wind of change,
lifted up and sent twirling into the sky,
like a leaf that flutters helplessly
in the first wild throes of autumn.

Like sails full-blown, dependent upon
the wind to chart my course upon waves,
I am tossed about on blue-green waters.
I leave my destiny to the wind and God.

As the wind dies down, a pause to rest.
It's tight grip on me released for a moment;
I feel sheer joy as my ship of life rocks me
as if held securely in my mother's arms.

Each one of us travels forth in time
to be blown about by life's frustrations.
At times we are all captured by the wind
until at last we stand tall and strong.

Gentle breeze to relentless gusts
change our paths and teach a lesson.
Adjust our sails, look to the future
where balmy seas and clear skies await.
