is it any good. please let me know if i should continue
"Is that her?" questioned the black headed boy as he nervously scratched the back of his right hand. He gestured to a young a girl leaning lazily against a tree.
"That’s her all right. My mom said not to talk to her or her family," she pulled on her pig tail for emphases. "She’s always alone talking to her self, plus Sara said if you look her in the eye you’ll drop dead," smiling at the boys frighten expression, she flittered her pink dress and continued.
"I hear she’s got this really bad disease, and that’s why she misses so much school. It’s best if you just don’t talk to her," and with a final sneer towards the ignored girl amber skipped off to join her friends. Lucas stared at the forgotten girl. Her long stringy blonde hair was unkept and hanging loose half way down her back, her rumpled clothes were unmatched and wrinkled, and yet Lucas was absolutely intrigued. He took a step towards her but stopped. Slowly, the girl lifted up her eyes and trapped Lucas. As dull and as dirty as her appearance was her crystal blue eyes sparked all the brighter. Lucas’s breath caught in his throat, all he could think of was him dropping dead in the unstained grass. Finally after a life time of blue he squeaked out, "hi I’m Lucas. I’m new. I hear your name is savannah." savannah kept her gaze on him unfazed. Had she heard him? Oh god this would be so much easier if shed look somewhere else.
Suddenly savannahs head snapped to the left, she sighed and nodded into the empty air. Lucas’s nerve was gone and he was looking for an escape when he heard ambers demanding voice "Lucas get over here! What are you doing?"
With a jump, he yelled "coming" and raced toward the small group of 4th graders, drained, and a bit out of breath, he arrived at the click.
"I told you NOT to talk to her!" amber waved her small arms above her head in exasperation.
"Don’t worry, I wont do it again." he said with a small unnoticed shudder.
"Smart dude. She scares me," smiled the young red headed boy with freckles. He took his glasses off and smeared the dirt around with his shirt bottom before replacing them on his nose. He squinted confused.
"I bet she’s a witch or vampire or something" exclaimed a tall brown headed boy, in an obvious cocky way.
"i thought vampires couldn't come out during the day" questioned a very short Japanese girl.
Lucas looked toward the tree, but it stood alone.
"No wonder she hasn’t any friends" thought Lucas as he scratched his right hand, "she’s terrifying."
And that was that was the last time he spoke to her for five years.

"Lucas, honey, get up or youll be late for your first day of high school." Lucas knew that his mothers extra perkiness was an attempt to conceal the fact that she had been crying because "her baby boy was going into high school" or something to the effect. With a moan Lucas rolled over and pulled his navy comforter over his puffy face. He had almost gotten back to sleep when a crushing pounce hit him square in the back quickly followed by a sharp intense pain in the back of his head.
"Gerrofff" was Lucas could manage because his face was now being shoved into his pillow. With a quick spin Lucas had his attacker face down in the floor with his arms pinned against his back.
"Aww you always do that" heaved Lucas’s younger brother finding it slightly difficult to breath.
"And that’s why you should join the wrestling team" smirked Lucas.
Jonathon was Lucas’s double. "Mini me" Lucas had liked to call him when they were younger. They shared the same silky black hair, muscular structure, and the same lopsided smile. Only Jonathon was three years younger. However, in everyway their appearance was similar their personality was different.
"So I can be a preppy robot, just like you" Jonathon sneered.
Lucas shoved his face deeper into the carpet leaving a burning red streak across Jonathan’s left cheek.
"No, so maybe one day you wont have to eat carpet for breakfast" Lucas laughed as Jonathan struggled.
Lucas had grown up to be Joe popular, ever since he moved here people just seemed to like him. Plus, he was good at every sport imaginable. He had everything under control in his life a nice C average when it came to grades, amber his hot yet slightly self-absorbed girlfriend, and pretty much everything else he wanted. The only thing he couldn’t understand was his little brother. He had every opportunity to follow in his handsome brothers footsteps, and he was so much smarter then Lucas with his straight A average. So why was he always dressing in black, getting into trouble, and hanging with the freaks of the school?
"Moooooooooooooom" Jonathon scattered Lucas’s train of thought. With a final shove Lucas released his panting brother.
"Your such a jerk" he bellowed as he stomped out of the room.
Lucas looked into the mirror, well that was a nice way to wake up he thought.
Lucas put on the outfit he’d spent all day yesterday picking out with amber. He brushed his teeth, changed his shirt, found his locker combo and schedule, changed his pants to match his new shirt, went down stair had a teary breakfast with his mom, again changed his shirt, brushed his teeth, and headed out the door. He quickly turned around and put on ambers outfit, and with a head nod towards his full length mirror he raced to catch the bus.
He reaches his stop as the bus pulls to a stop.
"Cutting it kinda close aint ya" retorts Jonathan.
"Naw fashionable late, not that you would know anything about fashion." exclaims Lucas as he pushes past jonathon.
"Your right! I actually only change clothes once this morning" said Jonathon smart-alecky as he followed Lucas onto the bus.
They took their usually seats habitually. The bus stop multiple times but Lucas hardly noticed. He set gazing out the window deep in his own thoughts. He couldn’t stop thinking about...
"You better stop scratching that hand of yours, its going to fall off" Lucas startled.
"Henry, hey man" Lucas gazed up at the red headed, freckle faced boy.
"You day dreaming again? You know I bet that has something to do with your C average." Henry took his glasses of and in an attempt to clean them smeared the dirt around the bottom of his shirt and replaced them on his plump face.
"But just think how low i would have been if I hadn’t bet you" smiled Lucas.
"Ha, you would have never made it to high school" Henry laughed an usually long time then went on to check his things, count has lunch money, and make sure he brought enough pencils.
Lucas smiled at his best friend. No one really knew why Henry hung out with the crowd he did, but Lucas was grateful for him all the same. Lucas turned back the seclusions of his window. Scratching his right hand he thought about everything that lie ahead of him.
With a quick stop to let of the middle schoolers, in which Lucas had to fight the urge to stand up and get off, they headed for the high school.
The bus ride to school was unusually short. In henrys rush to get off he dropped all of his pencils and they scattered on the bus's sticky floor. Lucas bent down to help retrieve them but Henry squealed with a grimace "leave them. Don’t you know how many gems are on that floor? Millions hundreds of millions." so Lucas followed the grumbling Henry off the bus.
"Well this is it" thought Lucas "high school".

Lucas stuck out and confidently walked towards the building trying, unsuccessfully, the keep his heart out of his throat. With a thought, panic shot through Lucas. "Oh no" Lucas’s right hand jerked "where do I go now?"
"Freshmen head towards the lunchroom, everyone else the gem," a young woman exclaimed brightly with a wink towards the frightened freshmen who were now grouping together block the entrance.
Lucas was the first to move, and with a sigh he headed in the direction the teacher was pointing. The rest of his classmates followed him like cattle.
He arrived at the lunchroom without much trouble and stepped into the brightly lit room. The lunchroom itself was a rather ordinary lunchroom. Lucas looked around. The walls of the large room were painted grey and the floor look as if it was meant to be white but it had changed with age to its now slightly yellow tent. There were multiple grey tables with red seats, few of which were occupied. Lucas searched widely for a familiar face; he couldn’t just keep standing here. God he must look like such a loser. Realizing that he wasn’t friends with any of the students that were already here, he headed towards the emptiest table.
"What a great way to start off high school. First I have no clue where to go, then I have no clue where to sit" Lucas was to busy being angry at his unpreparedness to notice Henry frantically pulling on his shirt sleeve.
"What!" Lucas exclaimed finally after sitting at the furthest table.
Henry said nothing but gestured deliriously at the lone girl who had been sitting at the table. Lucas had a hard time recognizing her because she set reading in baggy wrinkled clothing that covered up her fame with her waist length hair hanging loose over her face. With a start Lucas realized who she was and made a move to change seats. However, at that moment she looked up and caught him in her icy blue gaze.
"If I move now she’ll know it was because of her" thought Lucas cursing the manners his mother had taken years to beat into his head.
"So savannah how was your summer?" he asked as he tried to ease back down without her noticing.
after a while she shrugged her shoulders and murmured "fine"
"that’s great" Lucas exclaimed sounding a little to excited as he tried to think of the last time her had heard her speak.
"Did you do anything interesting?" he asked her as he scratched his right hand.
"Yes" she replied simply.
Lucas made to inquire more but just then his world went black. He couldn’t see anything.
"Guess who" he heard a voice command in ‘a you better get this’ tone.
"um let’s see" Lucas teased as he reached his hands behind him and ran it up the back of the person’s thigh
"that’s cheating" squealed the girl.
"Oh that’s defiantly the bestest girlfriend in the world. Amber" Lucas charmed as he spun in his seat to grab her around the waste.
"How do you always guess" amber smiled as she 'attempted' to wiggle her small frame away from him.
Out of the corner of his eye Lucas saw savannah roll her light blue eyes and returned to her reading.
Lucas couldn’t explain it, but for some reason he felt embarrassed and let go of amber.
"Why are you sitting here?" questioned amber with a look of disgust towards the girl in the corner.
"It was the emptiest table." Lucas answered frankly.
"well let’s go sit somewhere else" amber pouted as she pulled gently on his arm.
"Fine" Lucas said a little annoyed, amber never agrees with anything he did.
"I’ll talk to you later savannah" Lucas smiled politely at her, a gesture that didn’t go unnoticed by amber.
Savannah didn’t even look up from her gold trimmed book and amber snarled at her as they walked off.
"That girl is so weird. I wish she would just drop out or dead" amber foamed as she directed Lucas to a new table.
"uh huh" Lucas absentmindedly commented.
"don’t you think she’s strange or insane or both" amber chuckled in malice.
"What do you have against her?" Lucas asked unsure as to why he felt like defending her.
"She’s just creepy," amber sent her hazel eyes in a glared at the girl.
"Don’t you think so?" amber asked as she began to nibble on his neck.
’Why is she so threatened by her?’ thought Lucas.
But she had found he tickle spot near his ear and he was melting "sure she’s crazy" he managed as he turned to face her. God, she is just so pretty.
He leaned forward to kiss her, but was met with a clip board.
"Summer is over. and here we call that PDA and handle its detention Mr..." a tall balling man frowned over them.
"Lucas, sir, Lucas Williams" Lucas stammered.
"Let that be a warning, Mr. Williams" and with a final burning stair he left.
"Who was that?" Lucas questioned as he ran his fingers though his hair.
"oh him, he’s the principal" exclaimed amber brightly as she redid her make up with her small hand-held mirror.
"Great" Lucas thought "I’ve already made just great friends with the principal."
As time went on the tables filled with students, except of course for savannah’s, till the bell rang to signal first period.
"aw we have to leave each other." amber pouched out her lip playfully.
"But we’ll see each other second, lunch, and 6th." Lucas mockingly consoled her.
"O.k. it’s all better" amber flirted as she fixed his hair.
And people in the hall way rolled their eyes.
Lucas glanced at his scandal that was taped onto his black agenda book.
1 hon history
2 study hall
3 hon English
4 lunch
5 hon math
6 art
7 biology

"I cant believe your mom made you take all those honors classes, you are so going to fail" amber criticized. Insulting people just came so naturally to her.
"Hey" Lucas said a little hurt at her belief of his lack of intelligence.
"But I love you stupid, we have more classes together" amber smiled. She made all A’s in her regular class; she was just too lazy to take honors.
They parted ways and Lucas headed in the direction that he hoped was his first period class.
“Hey buddy, do you know..." Lucas watched as a tall strongly built boy continued pass him muttering something about "stupid freshman."
Lucas tried a few more times before his realized life had completely changed. Last year he was the king of the school, he was the guy. Everyone knew him, everyone liked him. If Lucas had something to say people stopped and listened. But here, he was a nobody.
Suddenly Lucas felt his right hand twitch, he was being watched. Lucas nonchalantly looked around before he spotted savannah's shady figure a few lockers down from his watching the show he had been putting on. Lucas tried rather unsuccessfully to smile at her, but alas his lopsided smile failed him. She simple shook her head, closed her locker, and gestured for him to follow her. Unsure Lucas took a step hesitant forward, and then paused. People were quickly filling the gap between them, and she wasn’t looking back to see if he was following her. After a slight debate with him self he went for it tentatively. She led him through the hallways and then outside to a trailer with a rusted nameplate reading Daniel. The thought that she might be leading him somewhere to kill him just because he spoke to her this morning had just crossed Lucas’s mind and he was once again cursing his mother, when he realized she had taken him to his first period class.
"Hey thanks" Lucas exclaimed a little lost.
But she didn’t even look; she simply walked into the class ahead of him. "How rude," Lucas thought as he followed her through the rusted door frame. Lucas did a quick check around the room. There were empty desks scattered around the back of the class and a few in the front. The room smelled old and moldy, and there were water spots dotting the ceiling. Lucas’s breathing became quick as he figured out that he had no friends in that class. Not only did he not have any friends there; he didn’t even know anyone. It took Lucas a few seconds to comprehend how and why he knew no one. His stupid mother had placed him in the nerd classes and he obviously was not a geek.
"Take a seat" spoke a woman irritatedly from the corner of the small room, her voice oozing with dislike.
"Yes mam" answered Lucas quickly and with a jump he leaped to the furthest desk from that woman. That desk just happened to be, he caught on with much regret, once again by savannah. Lucas attempted again to smile at her to try and convince her that he had purposely set by her, and that moment of hesitation right before he set down, where he had managed to trip and land in the seat with a dull crash, was merely an accident. She didn’t respond but simple went back to staring at her old-looking book.
The bell rang and the heavy set woman headed towards the center of the room.
"I am Miss Daniels" she said with an eye roll. She was most certainly not happy to be here Lucas concluded as she continued.
"I will not accept any trades. If I can get here on time you children can get here on time. I will not accept late work; I don’t care if you forgot it, your dog ate it, you were sick, or your grandmother died. There will be no..." Miss Daniels continued to snarl her speech. After sometime she realized that not everyone was intimidated to be regarding her with full attention. In fact, savannah wasn’t even looking at her much less paying attention, and she glared at the reading girl throughout her whole spill. This was making Lucas uncomfortable, and he stuck his right hand in his pocket and tried to pay enough attention for the both of them.
"I need you to get these signed," she retorted as she handed out pieces of paper to each student. Savannah was still reading beside him and when Miss Daniels reached out to hand her her paper she didn’t look up. Miss Daniels roared up, but before the commotion that Lucas was sure to happen could take place, he gentle snatched to paper out of her hand and placed on savannahs desk on top of her book. Savannah glared up at Lucas then at Miss Daniels.
"As long as you’re in my class you will participate, now put that book away right now," Miss Daniel started her yelling strong but amidst savannah’s capturing glair she faltered. However, to make up for her authoritative hiccup she practically screamed the words "right now" and stomped her foot. After a few seconds savannah coldly bent the top of the page that she had been reading and leaned down to place to book face down on the floor. But at sight of the molding carpet she changed her mind and placed it in her hooding pocket. Savannah then blankly looked at the woman, her uncombed hair blocking half her face but doing nothing to soften the intensity of her stair.
"You’re lucky I didn’t take it up," she said trying to save some dignity, and she walked slightly bewildered back to the front of the class.
"She has a short fuse" Lucas tried but savannah didn’t even dignify him with a glance.
Miss Daniels continued at the front of the class with the more then occasional glances in Lucas’s and savannah's direction. It was making Lucas sweat with nervousness, he hated when teachers look at him, and he was resisting the urge to scratch his bothersome hand. Savannah, on the other hand, set in her desk staring straight ahead with a somewhat less kind, dreamy look on her face. Lucas had just come to the conclusion that tomorrow he would sit as far away from this reckless girl as he could manage when he heard miss Daniels say "and where you set today will be your permanent seat, at least till I learn all your names."
Lucas sank deep into the metal desk. He was going to be alone on this forbidden island with savannah, with the closes nerd a whole desk away. Lucas let his hands fall hopelessly on the desk and banged his head silently against them. He swore he heard savannah whisper "not now wait till after class" to the thin air. Lucas simply banged his head all the harder. By the time he’d finally stopped there was a small red circle on his forehead. He looked in savannahs direction; she was still staring straight ahead.
Lucas zoned back into the teacher just in time to hear announce "ok now that were done with the friendly interdictions" Miss Daniels statement was met with lots of couched comments "lets take a pop quiz. There’s nothing like a pop quiz to start off the first day of school" she smoozed.
Lucas was surprise to hear the groans that erupted throughout the classroom. "Maybe they’re kind of like the regular students" thought Lucas, who had always been under the impression that honor kids loved work, pop quizzes, and never talked or joked in class.
Miss Daniels then proceeded to write out fifteen problems on the board. "the first five are the quiz, the other 10 are homework." she smirked at the students "you should be at this starting level, if you cant do this or keep up with me I suggest you drop the class. It will be one less brat I have to teach." and with that she strutted back to her desk and stared at the panicked students.
Lucas slowly got out 2 pieces of paper and started. He regretfully realized he couldn’t even get past the first problem. Sighing he look around the classroom and was once again surprised to see that he wasn’t the only one who didn’t know how to do this work. There was at least twelve other students who where frantically looking around the classroom, shooting darts at the kids who were able to get straight to work. Lucas smiled. Oddly enough Miss Daniels seemed to be desperately working on something as well. ‘Maybe this year won’t be so bad. Sure, I’m going to have no clue how to do any of my work but at least I won’t be the only one.’ Lucas tried to comfort himself.
He was jolted back to Miss Daniels when she screeched "Miss Grace I suggest you get to work" Lucas followed Miss Daniels scowl to figure put who Grace was, but for some reason she was looking at savannah
"Its savannah" savannah said in a mockingly polite voice. Lucas smiled miss Daniels had been trying to figure out who her rebellious student was. Lucas admirered savannah, she was completely unfazed by the fact she was making an enemy that could effect her grades and future.
"Fine, miss savannah get to work" growled Miss Daniels.
Savannah smiled, she actually smiled. Lucas didn’t even realized that she could; she actually looked kind of nice when she smiled.
Lucas realized the atmosphere in the room had changed; the students were antsy in anticipating what would happen next. Apparently, everyone knew what that smile meant; everyone but Lucas, and Miss Daniels.
Savannah reached down grabbed a clean piece of paper and wrote five numbers down. She then retrieved another piece of paper and wrote a on it. The other students were smirking and silently giggling. She got up and in her normal don’t notice me fashion walked up and handed the pieces of paper to Miss Daniels. Miss Daniel stared at the paper in confusion. Everyone seemed to be holding their breath. Savannah turned without waiting for a response from the teacher, set down at her desk, and began reading her bold red book with the golden outline.
"They’re right," Miss Daniels muttered baffled "did you do this in your head?" The class grinned at each other.
Savannah didn’t look up.
Miss Daniels gawked at the papers for a moment then gathering her self she said expressionlessly "its considered cheating if you look at the answer key before a test savannah. You will be receiving a zero."
a small objection came from the class but it was silenced with a look from Miss Daniels, and the students returned to their work. Savannah didn’t look up from her book, but Lucas could tell her wasn’t reading.
Lucas putting all the facts together became angry. He was mad at Miss Daniels because savannah had obviously not cheated, everyone knew it, and he was even madder at the other students. They were so excited and behind this rejected student when she was about to challenge the teacher but when she needed some back up they return to ignoring her.
"She did not cheat" Lucas said before he could stop himself.
Savannah looked up appearing more baffled then the teacher as they said "what" in unison.
"She didn’t..."
Lucas was cut off "and you are?"
Lucas felt two sets of eyes burning into him, and he decided it was a very hot and uncomfortable place to be.
"Lucas...Lucas Williams" Lucas answered and continued, "I was with her the whole time and I know..."
Again he was cut short "Mr. Lucas I don’t know who you think you are, but I am the teacher and what I say goes" she thundered at him.
"But it’s not fair. She...” Lucas tried to get out fast before she could silence him.
However, "one more word out of you and you'll get detention."
"Lucas" savannah said strangely. Lucas looked at her, his name sounded different when she said it.
"She still didn’t do it" Lucas breathed but the tyrant still heard him.
"Detention" she spat.
"Now wait..." savannah began.
"You too" miss Daniel was losing it.
But before the spectacle the bell rang to the dismay of the other students.
Lucas gathered his things and stormed out of the room. "Why wasn’t savannah angrier? And more importantly why am I so mad?" Lucas pondered as he thundered towards second. He had made it through two hall ways before he realized he hadn’t a clue where he was nor where his class was.
Suddenly someone yanked on the back of his jacket with such force it nearly choked him.
"What was that?" savannah was inches from his face showing more raging emotion then he had ever seen her put together.
“I was trying to help” Lucas pointed out.
"Why?" savannah yelled. She was blazing, and Lucas was starting to feel hot and sticky.
"Cause you didn’t cheat. I don’t know how you did it, but it was cheating." Lucas stammered. He felt very uncomfortable with her so close to him this angry. He felt unsafe.
"Ya and…" savannah eyes seemed to pierce right through him.
Rubbing his hands together he said defensively "I was just trying to help"
"well don’t." savannah turn and started to walk away while Lucas just stood there feeling dazed. A few feet in front of him she continued, but turned her head slightly, not looking at him exactly, she said "you coming" in a tone that was anything but friendly.
Lucas stammered forward. When he caught up with her he asked "Where are we going?"
Savannah looked at him exasperated, and after a long pause she answered annoyed "to class"
Lucas felt embarrassed and confused about the whole situation. No one ever treats him this way. Everyone always tries so hard for his approval, and if he ever did anything nice for someone he got hero points. People seemed to think of him as a role modle and applauded him for his good works. She was acting like he had screwed up and she was going to have to clean up the mess.
"How do you know where my classes are?" Lucas asked trying to break to silence.
With an eye roll she pointed to his black agenda book where had his schedule taped on it.
"I saw it this morning when you interrupted my reading." and with that she sped up to where he was forced to follow behind her.
"Oh" he said. She obviously didn’t want to talk.
’Why am I trying so hard to gain her approval’ thought Lucas as he obediently followed her maneuvering through the hallways. Lucas tried to think, the last like he had had a class with her was in fourth grade, and even then she was isolated. He had heard she was smart, but he really hadn’t cared. People had always said she was insane because you would occasionally catch her talking to herself.
Savannah turned left into a classroom. Without looking back at him she headed for her usually seat in the furthest, darkest, most deserted corner. A pudgy girl with glasses was sitting near savannahs chosen seat, but with a small squeak of fear to heavy girl moved.
Lucas took a quick inventory of the room. His second period class was inside the building so it didn’t have that musty smell, but it still had an old book smell. The carpet was still old and badly stained. Most of the desks were full except for the ring around savannah.
"Hey" Lucas jumped as his girlfriend came into the room and tapped him on the butt.
"hey sweetheart" she said goo-gooly.
"Hey" Lucas said embarrassed.
"Where do you want to sit sweetie?" amber asked sounding almost like a small child.
”there’s only four desks in the back left corner." Lucas said with a sigh.
"Ewwww I don’t want to sit by her!" amber exclaimed pointing at savannah who had already gotten out her bright red book with gold trim. It was a pretty book Lucas thought.
"Hey," amber said politely to the chubby girl with black framed glasses that had just set down moments before in the front desk by her friends, "what’s your name?"
"Anna" the girl answered looking a little frighten. Lucas hated when amber tried to intimidate other girls, but she derived such pleasure out of it.
"Anna" amber smiled sweetly "would you and one of your friends mine moving so me and my boyfriend" she put her arm around Lucas "could have your seats"
the girl looked even more frightened but looking back at the only available seats she hesitated. "Ha" Lucas thought "she’s unsure of who she’s more afraid of."
Amber looked annoyed that she had not been met with immediate action, angry she cried "besides those seats look sturdier." the girl glowed and made a move to get up. Amber smirked at her successes.
"Amber!" Lucas angrily grabbed her arm, and with an apologetic look towards the girl, he pulled her over towards savannah’s contaminated seats.
"That was completely uncalled for. It’s not going to kill you to sit back her. God, you can be so rude sometimes!" Lucas placed amber in the seat diagonally from savannah while he took to seat behind amber and beside savannah. Savannah, ‘surprise’, did not look up.
"I almost had us the seats" amber pouted as she twirled her silky brown hair around her fingers.
Lucas was just about the say something about how she should be nice when the bell rang; he let the argument die on his lips. A young chipper woman entered the room.
"my what a lovely group of freshmen." the teacher exclaimed brightly as she skipped into the room.
"paleeese" Lucas could practically hear ambers eye roll.
Lucas on the other hand liked her instantly. She just seemed so happy and free.
"Im Miss Jones, but you can call me what ever you like" she clasped her hands together and seemed to bounce on her toes with excitement.
"Wow your in high school can you believe it, you’re almost grown up" she looked at her students a sad smile playing on her lips.
then she bounced to the left of the room and continued "now, my little chirrups, since you have me for study hall I’m ganna be a pretty easy teacher," she flittered right "just be glad you don’t have me for honors math, although some of you little cherries might next year." Lucas made a mental note to take honors math next year.
"The rules for this class" she planted her feet with mock authority and chanted in an army tone "do your work, don’t get too loud, be nice to others, and come to me if you need anything...sounds good?" she flittered left again.
"o.k. since I’m not assigning work, and goodness hopes since its barely the first day of school you don’t have any work yet, I have this crossword puzzle you can do" she had said crossword puzzle as if there was nothing better to do on the planet.
"Only" she continued with a sly smile "after you finish answer these questions about you. Tell me what you like, what you hate, good teachers, bad teachers, who your friends are, what you like to do, and anything else you sugarplums feel like sharing with me"
She passed out the papers and gave a meaningful smile to each student. When she was at Amber, he could almost envision Ambers I really am as innocent as I look face that she tended to put on when ever talking to teachers. When Miss Jones stopped in front of Lucas, he felt all funny inside and found it difficult to look her in the eye. She winked and gave a little smile. She turned to give savannah her paper, but she mannerless girl continued reading.
"Here you go" Miss Jones said chipperly. Savannah kept reading. Lucas rather mad quickly snuck the paper out of the teachers hand and blocked savannah’s vision of the book with it. Savannah again glared at Lucas, who held his own glare this time. With a sigh savannah turned over the paper wrote her name on it and handed with a queer smile back to the teacher. Miss Jones giggled and took the paper saying "thank you for being honest" and with a quick smile at Lucas for his help she turned and flittered back to her desk.
Savannah whipped her head towards Lucas. Without Miss Jones there Lucas felt weak and defenseless. But after a second savannah returned to reading her book. ‘Humph’ thought Lucas as he started on the sheet that asked questioned such as his favorite food, movie, and band. Amber would occasional look back and wink at him, He would smile and continue working. Savannah did nothing but sits and read that book of hers. It took Lucas almost the whole class to finish the crossword puzzle. Lucas looked at the last question ‘who is the best study hall teacher’? Lucas smiled and moved to write Miss Jones when a small gust of wind came from savannahs direction blowing his paper off the desk. He looked over a little peeved to see where a random burst of wind could come from in a closed off classroom. But all he saw was savannah sitting at her desk reading that stupid navy book of hers with a pale blue trim. Lucas looked around but he seemed to be the only one to take any notice of the wind.
The bell rang signaling the start of third.
‘Wait’ thought Lucas as he looked back at savannah but she had already slipped her belongings in her hoody pocket and snuck out of the room.
