A fleeting glance......
Love's Bitter Pill

A fleeting glance, a passing dream,
a portent of what might have been.
And then I watched it slip away,
like darkness steals away the day.

What others saw, I could not see.
I thought that we were meant to be.
My heart, my soul I gave to you.
Your love turned cold, while my love grew.

You walked away, not saying why.
Your love for me was just a lie.
There's nowhere now for me to hide.
You stripped me of my hard won pride.

I'll save the tears, you will not see
what loving you has done to me.
I will rise up above the pain
and maybe I will love again.

In future though, I will beware
all of the lies men use to snare
the ardent heart to do their will.
I’ve swallowed once love’s bitter pill.
