A neighbor's continued grief years after losing her oldest daughter.

Mrs. Cox
(My neighbor – true story)

In the morning, on the porch she sits,
Still in mourning, as her big heart splits.

She lost a child, several years ago,
An adult child, and yet the tears flow.

Drinks her coffee, smokes a cigarette,
Thinks of nothing, has so much regret.

She doesn't know, how she feels today,
She hangs her head, wipes the tears away.

Asks herself why, did her daughter die,
Looks to the sky, and doesn't know why.

Her daughter left, no suicide note,
Only questions, memorized by rote.

A mother lives, and a daughter dies,
A life set free, and a life despised.

A mother's heart, left in so much pain,
She fears it will, soon drive her insane.

She feels so numb, nothing to smile for,
At such a loss, she closes the door.

Why God?  Oh, Why? She asks every day.
But the answers, just all slip away.

Like big dark clouds, in a sunless sky,
Left every day, never knowing why.
