A piece about the coming new year, and what it might mean.
Pulse

You hear the meandering melody
of a piano on a radio,
and you start to hum along,
as words are put in your mouth.

You carry all your worries,
as you walk past a frozen grandstand,
in a park blanketed in sparkling snow,
and you feel like you’re in a new dreamland.

You don’t have a name for such a peace,
and you’re not sure you can find it again.
These are the moments that define
what blinds us to all but remembering when.

You’re bound by the majesty of the day,
because what do you say on New Years Eve?
Everywhere you look, things are beginning to change,
even as you wish it would never leave

Speed up and let the joy bind you.
Who knows? It might set you free
Forget that little voice inside you,
if you dare to let it be

Close your eyes and lose yourself in a dream,
but don’t forget to remember what you are
Let yourself study the stars and imagine,
this year you’ll finally feel their pulse
