A poem on the desire to be free - even when wheelchair bound.
On a cold steel ferry
Encumbered by iron
He sat

When the gulls appeared
He smiled, he gurgled
He spat

Deep wrinkles conveyed
The grip and gravity of
His captor

But when sea gulls neared
The wheelchair couldn’t quell
His laughter

With one good arm
He flung stale bread towards
The blue sky

Until soaring
Alongside the graceful gulls
He flew by
