CONTEST WINNER - This was written for my daughter on her 13th birthday.
I DIDN’T KNOW

I didn’t know …
Thirteen years ago...
That I would love you so.

I didn’t know...
That on this day …
My life would change in every way.

I didn’t know …
the joy you’d bring...
To each and every ordinary thing.

I didn’t know …
How happy each day would be...
Just because you’d smiled at me.

I didn’t know …
My heart would burst with pride...
As you grew up, right by my side.

I didn’t know …
I’d be so entranced...
Each time I watch those small feet dance.

I didn’t know …
I would find such pleasure...
From that small bundle - my tiny treasure.

I didn’t know …
I’d see the world with eyes anew...
How green the grass, the skies so blue.

I didn’t know …
As I held you in my arms...
How you’d beguile me with your charms.

I didn’t know …
My youngest daughter...
That you would bring so much love and laughter.

I didn’t know …
In this world full of trouble and strife...
How perfect you would make my life.

I didn’t know …
So here’s a letter...
To let you know each year gets better.
