A poem about growing up and everyday magic.
When I was young I believed in the Magic
I walked in the garden at twilight
searching for elves and fairy rings
I looked for familiars in everday animals
I tried to do spells from library books
Everyday there was something exciting
Something new to discover and learn

Then I grew a little older, a little wiser
discovery was replaced by learning
rote memorization of textbooks and facts
boring routines marked the passage of life
I felt tired, nervous, and feared for my future
Things I had never once felt as a child
became what my life was all about

When I am old will I still be afraid
of mortality and the ending of life?
will I still care about dusty old textbooks?
I want to be the child who believed in the Magic
I want to see fairies, and unicorns, and spells
I want to discover a beautiful destiny
memory and facts to make way for the Magic of Life
