A poem written for a friend whose fiancee had left him.
MELANCHOLY

A moment’s slip,
A wayward thought,
A loose remark,
A mind distraught;

A trust unkept,
A mocking smile,
Too probing eyes,
A glance agile;

These all surface,
When doubts arise
And surely cause
The love’s demise.

Feeling sorry
When all is gone,
When light is past
And dark has grown,

Will just cause more
Of dejection.
What use is now
Introspection?

The more you think
Of your Shelley,
More will be your
Melancholy.
