a girl being chased by something...maybe
It was the sun that woke her. She could feel the heat permeating through every exposed area of her already tanned body. She could also feel the beginning pains of a headache. She opened her eyes and took in the clear blue sky above her. How long had she been here? The last she remembered was driving her run down sedan to the cemetery. She glanced at her arms and saw cuts and scratches on them. She raised her knees up a little and saw scrapes on them too. Why did she always go against her better judgment? She cursed herself and she knew she should have worn jeans. A sudden chill ran down her back. Her body grew tense as she remembered what had led her to the field. She had run from the beast. It had tracked her this far. She sat up quickly and her head began to spin. She looked around her and saw nothing. Then she saw it from the corner of her eye. It was coming from the tall grass field to her right. She didn't want to look in its direction. She had done so well to avoid them. They had never crossed over before. Her heart started thumping against her chest. Beads of sweat formed on her forehead. She licked her lips and tasted her salty tears. It was pointless here in the middle of who knows where. She knew she had no where to run to. But something sparked inside. Survival. She had to try something or die trying. She rolled onto her hands and knees and stared directly into the eyes of the beast. She could smell its putrid breath on her face. She couldn't take her eyes from his dark pools of death. His eyes were black with silver lines swirling inside. Mind control. She quickly glanced away and took in the size of his body. It was the shape of a black lion on steroids, but the head looked like that of a deformed wolf. She glanced back up to study its face, but the beast pushed her aside with one its large paws. All she could hear was her labored breath; she couldn't bring herself to look up again. Hope was gone. Defeat was wearing in. She closed her eyes and let the beast win.
