Photosynthesis
By Ed Litzinger

Our bodies ease together,
like easing into hot water.
Weaving thirsty branches
in and out, Interlocking, poking,
stroking: withering products of
autumn drought. We flourish
like pubescent vines,
climbing to grasp the sun’s life.
Reaction. Jolting sensations
kissing salty abrasions,
delivering my seed, my fill.
of sticky, potent chlorophyll.

Prick is pulled, closed in pod
Stuck, syruped in venus stigma.
I trace her fragile spine with a
sensitive, surging vine,
provoking sleepy organelles.
She arches her boney,
feline spine closer to mine
and transmutes my carbon to
make it hers.  A lover blooms;
Another dies to keep the cycle alive.
