Poem I wrote for my Senior portfolio; Inspired by true people
The Greatest Teachers

You were aged while I was aging,
Wise while I was learning.
You knew what to do and how to do it,
I was ignorant and so did nothing.

You taught me wisdom to make me wise,
I learned so fast, you were surprised.
Logic, morals, literacy and vision.
You taught me everything, even religion.

You always said I'd be so smart,
It was you who gave me a start.
The years went by, you taught me less,
I used my lessons for the best.

Years apart you died off slowly,
The first half went and I was lonely.
Four years later, there went the remainder,
I was lost at first and I felt ingrown.

Now that I've recooped, I feel much greater.
Although you're gone, I can still learn,
There's still no question, its knowledge I yearn.
You've lived your purpose, there is no doubt,
I now know what life is about.

Though Death's malice tore us apart,
I have learned to live without.
I have no doubt, I truly know,
You are the greatest teachers I've ever known.

Throughout my life I loved you as you loved me,
You were always there for me.
Though you were my grandma and great-aunt,
You felt more like my mother and aunt.
